The brutal femicide of a woman who was beaten to death by her husband at a bus stop shocks the city of new York. The attack happened as dozens of passersby passed by, screaming in horror.
The victim Maria Kelly, 49, died last Friday, four days after the attack at the corner of Fort Washington Avenue and West 163rd Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood. Her husband Julio Aponte, 63, of Dominican origin, will be charged with the murder.
It all happened at 7 a.m. on Monday June 14. In security camera footage from the savage attack, Aponte shouted: “How dare you cheat on me?.
The man, dressed in a black hoodie and black pants, appears standing above his wife, who was lying below in the street. He repeatedly hits her on the head with a bar covered with a plastic bag.

Passers-by were yelling at him to stop, but he went on and hit Kelly, mother of two and school assistant, thrice. With her lying in the street, he then threw the bag under the bench at the bus stop, making a metallic noise.
Then Aponte slowly stood up, threw a backpack aside and stood beside her, gesturing with both arms like he kept yelling at his apparently unconscious wife.
Passers-by shouted, videotaped him and called 911. Aponte lingered a few more seconds before walking away: fled on a motorbike and was then arrested nearby a few minutes latersaid the police.
Apparently, Aponte got off the motorcycle and told a parking lot worker that he had killed his wife, the statement said. New York Post.

The parking attendant reportedly urged Aponte to call the police. Eventually he called 911 and confessed to having killed his wife after learning that she had cheated on him.
Officers found the woman on the ground, unconscious and with a severe head trauma.
Kelly was taken by ambulance to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, where suffered cardiac arrest due to his injuries and subsequently lost his life.
Aponte’s charges could eventually turn into murder, which would be dealt with by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
