The Government of Buenos Aires will put into operation since July a pilot test to stimulate the use of electric skateboards for rent – called for shared use – that will depend on domestic and international private companies, informed the authorities of the Government of Buenos Aires.
"The electric skateboards are agile, comfortable and used in the main cities of the world make short trips and connect to public transport, "Esteban Galuzzi, deputy secretary of public transportation and transport, told the news agency Telam.
The one-year pilot test aims to determine what is the best alternative for this transportation to work in the city, since there are three types of business models in the world, in cities like Madrid, Montreal or Helsinki.
In the government of Buenos Aires, they believe that there will be a basic fare, similar to the "discount" taxis, about 25 pesos and it will cost between 6 and 10 pesos per minute.
"We know that the most important thing for the neighbors is to get home quickly or work, reducing travel times, which is why we are going to add this new mobility alternative to the network of metrobuses, cycleways and to the various public transport improvement policies, "added the official.
The idea of the Government of Buenos Aires is to approve in May this project already published this week in the Legislative Assembly, for regulate these personal mobility devices in the code of transit and transport and thus allow its circulation in public spaces.
As they move forward from the city, the running conditions of the electric skateboards will be similar to those for pedal-badisted electric bicycles. They must have a single driver, an electric motor, a maximum speed of 25 km / h, a mandatory helmet, front and rear lights, a mandatory braking system and a buzzer.
The project provides that these skateboards circulate on bike paths or, otherwise, they can go on the streetexcept for large avenues (July 9, for example), while traffic on the sidewalks will be prohibited.
As they explained, the shared skateboards will be connected to a mobile phone application to activate them, which will indicate the location of the nearest. Once used, they can be left parked on the sidewalk until the next user uses it.
At night, companies lift skateboards to load them or offer users money to lift them, load them at home and drive them to the withdrawal points.
"They support sustainable mobility and new uses of shared mobility transport," Galuzzi said.
The pilot test will last one year with the possibility of extending it for one year and the participation of different companies, national and international, who are already presenting their proposals to the municipal government to start operating.
