This decision, which reforms the Customs Code and will come into force from April 1, was formalized by an edict published this Friday in the Official Journal.
The Government stated that when it was necessary to export postal items intended for family badistance or personal gifts, consisting, inter alia, of second-hand clothing. or promotional products used or not, the merchandise will be verified by the customs service, which will determine if the commodity is reached by the current regime.
In addition, it was established that it could be shipped free of taxes levied on imports intended for consumption under the general scheme, with the exception of fees paid to services, consignments whose value was not included. Does not exceed $ 5 per shipment, up to a maximum of twelve per year per person.
The decree also ordered the release of postal items not exceeding $ 50 and having no commercial purpose.
According to the official text, when it comes to importing postal items, it is necessary for the customs service to carry out rigorous checks of the consignment, quoting the consignee, where appropriate.
The executive branch justified this measure by stating that it was necessary to modify the regulations relating to the postal system, in order to facilitate the management processes and to improve the quality of the users' attention. and control, in line with current technological advances and increased use of treatment.
