The crocodile they are really big and scary animals. The marine reptile is the largest today. The longest that was found measured 8.5 meters and weighed 1700 kilograms and was captured in Queensland, Australia, in 1957. It is followed in size by the Nile crocodile with specimens exceeding 6 meters and weighing nearly 750 kg.
It was precisely in this region of Australia that last Friday, August 6, a huge crocodile attacked an army soldier. The man suffered serious head and chest injuries after being mutilated by the animal. The national media immediately began to report the news.
But the soldier was not alone, but with a partner who tried to rescue him. The spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance Service, Denis o’sullivan, reported that the two men allegedly fished at the site, near a coastal town on the Cape York Peninsula, about 800 kilometers north of Cairns, when they were attacked by a large crocodile.
The soldier who also accompanied suffered arm injuries after being bitten by the animal. Regarding the attacker’s condition after the attack, there has been no news so far. These attacks are happening because, as reported by the Government of the Northern Territory, in the northern part of Australia, it is estimated that there are between 100,000 and 200,000 crocodiles in the wild.
Are crocodiles naturally aggressive?
Crocodiles can attack people if they get too close. The most dangerous is the marine crocodile, followed by the Nile, and they can become cannibals, that is, include human meat in their diet.
These animals have a aggressive behavior by nature. For this reason, it is essential not to exceed your limits and thus avoid an encounter that could put people’s lives in danger. In this sense, there are several tourist circuits which, on many occasions, exceed these limits. Many tourists get too close to these animals and even try to feed them in their mouths, which increases the danger. It is important to note that crocodiles are not domesticates.
Crocodile attack in Mexico
On July 18, 18-year-old Kiana Hummel took to the beach at a Marriot resort in the aforementioned Mexican town with a friend. At that point, a four-meter-long crocodile attacked her, grabbed her right leg with its powerful jaws and started dragging her into the sea as she screamed in despair, NBC News reported. Without a doubt, the danger of being near these animals is real and you have to be very careful when approaching them.
