Hunter S. Thompson is a legendary writer and pioneer of his own form of journalism. When it came to badessing the NFL's talent, Thompson was clearly less legendary.

The former quarterback of San Diego Chargers, Ryan Leaf, shared a letter from Thompson with Jim Irsay, owner of the Colts of Indianapolis. Thompson informed Irsay that he would not provide a $ 30 million loan if the Colts were to pick Peyton Manning, but would do so if the team committed to taking the overall lead in the overall standings. 1998:
