IAPA calls for “urgent” provisional measures in favor of three journalists detained by Cuban dictatorship

The Inter-American Press Association (SIP) requested this Monday at Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to grant “urgently“Precautionary measures in favor of three Cuban journalists detained and held incommunicado for a week, considering that “They are in a serious situation.”

Last Friday, the IAPA submitted to the IACHR the request for precautionary measures for the benefit of Henri Constantin Ferreiro, journalist and editor-in-chief of the magazine Cuba’s time, de Camagüey, and vice-chair of the IAPA Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information for Cuba since 2016; Iris Mariño, journalist and photographer for the magazine, and Neife Rigau, designer of the medium.

Although the IAPA has acknowledged that there are many cases in Cuba that require firm actions by the IACHR, focused on the cases of Constantín Ferreiro, Mariño and Rigau, given the fact that they were arrested on July 11, 2021, “They remain in secret and their family is not aware of their condition.

The organization argued that the IACHR should consider the “Serious risk situation for these journalists, victims of threats and harassment in recent years because of their independent work. “

In its petition, the IAPA asked the IACHR to extend precautionary measures to the families of Constantin Ferreiro, Marine Yes Rigau, for fear of reprisals from the regime.
