Today, they are one year old, Arami and Mbarete, puppies yaguareté (Panthera onca) born at the Center for reintroduction of the species it takes CLT Argentina with the government of the province of Corrientes and the administration of the national parks of the island of San Alonso, Iberá National Park. With this initiative, this big cat who disappeared from the province more than 70 years agohe recovers the possibility of returning to his original ecosystem.
Without contact with humans and monitored by cameras installed at the Yaguareté Re-introduction Center (CRY), Arami and Mbarete – "Cielito" and "Fuerza" in Guaraní, names chosen by the children of the region – no longer depend on mother Tania to get food. In fact Both cats actively participate in the hunt for small and medium-sized prey such as capybara, a very abundant species throughout the Iberá.. Although they are getting closer to their mother's natural stage of separation, they continue to interact and play regularly with her.
"Yaguaret is at the top of the food web of the Iberá ecosystem. That is why its presence is of vital importance for the realization of a healthy and complete environment.in which all species are found in sufficient numbers and fulfill their ecological role. Today, we celebrate with great joy the first anniversary of Arami and Mbarete, and we are even happier and excited about the road that remains to be traveled in this project, "said Sebastián Di Martino, Rewilding Director of CLT Argentina.
