Ice bath at 5 o'clock and a single meal a day: that's how the president of Twitter lives

That's at least how it feels, according to co-founder and CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, whose routine has been described as "spartan" but also "crazy."

Dorsey revealed a part of her daily life in a podcast program specializing in fitness, in which she said that she ate once a day, fasted a lot on weekends and walked 8 kilometers a day to get to her office.

The 42-year-old billionaire is also distinguished by his attitude toward his own salary in the prosperous society that he directs.

Unlike other corporate executives, the entrepreneur decided early on in his successful project not to receive a salary.

A decade after the creation of Twitter, the billionaire received his first salary: for a nominal amount of 1.40 USD (yes, a dollar and 40 cents), according to a company statement filed with the US regulatory authorities.

This amount was a snap to the character limit imposed by Twitter at the beginning of its creation (140), in 2006.

Dorsey has repeatedly defended the benefits of mindfulness.

Meditation, one of the keys

Although it sounds like many other Silicon Valley entrepreneurs in many ways, Dorsey's routine for staying physically and mentally fit is very different from most others.

The co-founder of Twitter explained to the Ben Greenfield Fitness podcast that his daily rituals started very soon: with the singing of birds.

Early in the morning, Dorsey goes into the icy water for three minutes, alternating with a 15-minute sauna at 104 degrees Celsius.

After that, he meditates for an hour.

This is a practice he has been practicing for 20 years and he considers very beneficial.

Dorsey has defended the benefits of mindfulness on different occasions. In a comment on Twitter after a period of "spiritual retreat" in Burma, he said:

"For 10 days, without an electronic device, without reading, writing, without physical exercise, without music, without alcoholic beverages, without meat, without conversation, or even without personal contact with other people, it is free : everything is provided by the meditators of a charity. "

In the one – hour podcast, the entrepreneur stated that he only prepared "one big meal a day", around 6.30 pm in the afternoon, usually with protein and salad. After that: fruits and dark chocolate.

Dorsey says his lifestyle makes him much more focused during the day and ready to handle the pressures of his job.

No financial problems

As for his salary, Dorsey looks more like other important leaders in the United States.

Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) or Larry Page (Google) earn only $ 1 a year.

There is also the case of the founder of the Amazon, Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, who earns a base salary of $ 81,840 a year, the same as he had received in 1998.

The "key" to their symbolic salaries is that their income comes from other sources.

In the case of Twitter's CEO, his fortune – valued at US $ 5,000 million according to Forbes magazine – relies on the benefits that he draws from his shares on Twitter and Square, a co-founded mobile payment company in 2009.

With more than 300 million users per month, Twitter's revenue reached a record $ 909 million in the last quarter of 2018, up 24%, thanks in part to video ads.

Dorsey currently holds 2.3% of Twitter's shares. In 2016, it sold one-third of its stake in the company's workers (for a value close to 250 million US dollars).

And in the case of Square, the entrepreneur has about 60 million shares, whose value has risen from $ 9 in 2015 to over $ 75.
