From November 1 of this year, the United States will force Colombians and other foreigners to enter the country with new measures, among which, presenting the vaccination card with the complete scheme and a negative covid-19 PCR test with 72 hours of anticipation of the plane trip.

That is to say that the North American country will not be able to enter without being vaccinated, being already a mandatory rule, and the only laboratories that will allow it are those of Pfizer (BioNtech), Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sinovac. Those not on the list are: Sputnik V (Russia), Noravax (United States), Abdalá and Soberana (Cuba).

Although the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA for its acronym in English), He had only approved Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen, since on Monday Anthony Fauci, an adviser to the US government, highlighted that the AstraZeneca vaccine could enter the approved: “The information we have on the vaccine would indicate that there would be no reason for people who received this drug to think that they might have problems (traveling), ”he said. Information confirmed a few days later.

Proof that foreigners and Americans entering the country must present must be prior to boarding. If people born in the North American country are not fully vaccinated, they will need a covid-19 test one day before the flight departs and another upon arrival.

Currently the US prohibits entry to most non-US citizens who have stayed in the UK in the last 14 days, the 26 Schengen countries of Europe without border controls, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil. And it allows the rest of qualified travelers to enter without a vaccination certificate.

With these measures, “vaccine tourism” to the United States will end on October 31, the last day you can enter the country without a vaccine or receive a dose for the first time.

Travel restrictions, which had been in place since March 2020, had been widely criticized by European partners, where the vaccination rate is higher than in the United States. Biden has increased the pressure on the unvaccinated and the measure on passengers could underscore the importance of vaccination. In addition, he seeks to get leaders in power to commit to donating vaccines to the global COVAX initiative.

For their part, airlines should collect information from international travelers to facilitate contact tracing. The new requirements only apply to air and non-land travel.
