Impressive explosion in the London Underground | The cause and number of injuries are unknown

A strong explosion followed by fire was recorded this Monday at Elephand Station and Castle from the metro, in the heart of London.

So far, the origin of the event is unknown and the number of injured is not known, but according to the first police reports, it would not have been an attack.

London firefighters have reported that there are 10 trucks working in the area with more than 70 firefighters trying to put out the blaze, as authorities asked residents to stay inside and close their windows due to the intense smoke.

According to a police spokesperson, an emergency call was received to report the fire at 1:47 p.m. (9:43 a.m. in Argentina). “The station has been evacuated and now residential buildings are being evacuated”, he detailed.

Sara Scarpa, a neighbor in the neighborhood, told Television Sky News that she opened “the window for a second and we heard people screaming and we felt something very, very loud ”, in reference to smoke. Neighborhood streets were closed to interrupt traffic.

“The whole building was evacuated, we started to smell smoke and the store owner went to check, we saw smoke coming out,” said Alex Leckie, deputy manager of Tupi restaurant, adding: “The column smoke has also started to envelop the apartment blocks and we keep hearing intermittent explosions. ”
