India – Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple, Telangana State Rudreshwara Temple, better known as Ramappa Temple, is located in Palampet commune, located about 200 km northeast of Hyderabad, the capital of India. State of Telangana. It is the most important temple dedicated to Shiva, built in a fortified complex during the time of the Kakatiya dynasty (1123-1323 AD) under the reign of rulers Rudradeva and Recharla Rudra. Its construction began in 1213 and is said to have taken around 40 years. Built mainly of sandstone, the temple also has beams and pilasters carved from granite and dolerite. Its unique “vimana” – a horizontally staggered pyramidal tower – was built with porous, or “floating” bricks, to reduce the weight of the roofs.
