A population increasingly accustomed to not going out on the streets at night was looking forward to the arrival of Juan Guaidó, in the middle of a blackout and illuminated by cell phones. The proclaimed interim president of Venezuela has arrived and badured that he had the support of the international community to win his political struggle "in a few days".

Due to several checkpoints placed on the road by the authorities, as well as the headquarters of the armed groups that respond to the Chavez regime, Guaidó arrived with more than five hours late in Punto Fijo, in the northwest corner of Venezuela, the neighbor and the oil state of Zulia, where he stopped on Saturday and early Sunday.

The street lighting in Punto Fijo, home of the country's largest refining complex, came from improvised lighthouses and participants' cell phones.

Guaidó, who invoked the constitution to declare himself interim president in January and recognized by dozens of countries, has visited several states in recent weeks to promote demonstrations against the regime of Nicolás Maduro, whose re-election in 2018 is considered a fraud.

Zulia and its neighboring state, Falcón, where Punto Fijo is located, they were rich regions of oil activity, but years of divestment led to a drop in production to a minimum in seven decades.

The Cardón and Amuay refinery, near Punto Fijo, is part of the so-called Paraguaná Refining Center (CRP), the largest in the country, capable of processing 955,000 barrels of oil a day.
