Inaugurated in Norway an incredible underwater restaurant – 22/03/2019

Europe's first underwater restaurant opened Wednesday (March 20th) in Baaly, Norway. with over 7,000 registered customers to eat among the fish.

Located at the southern tip of Norway, the restaurant looks like a large concrete pipe partially submerged in the North Sea. He's calling "Under", which means "under" in English, also means "wonder" in Norwegian.

The work comes from the study of Snoehetta Norwegian architecture, who also created the Oslo Opera House and the museum commemorating the victims of September 11 in New York.

"What's fascinating in this work is the way the building enters the water from top to bottom (…). The large window allows you to see the seabed, not like an aquarium, but as a real experience, "said Snoehetta's founder, Kjetil Traedal Thorsen.

On entering, the sensation is similar to that of a sauna: the upper part is covered with wooden planks, but an eight-meter staircase leads to a large dining room that can accommodate up to 40 people, walled by a gigantic window that overlooks the ocean.

Traedal Thorsen, the architect, said the construction could cope with a very harsh climate and that its shape can withstand what it calls "the wave of the century".

The restaurant is designed to minimize reflections on the glbad wall, which invades the room of natural light during the day, filtered by the greenish color of the water.

A full 18-course meal, based on local ingredients and seafood, can cost up to 3 700 crowns (about 430 dollars) per person, drinks included.
