Incidents continue in Spain due to imprisonment of Catalan rapper Pablo Hasél

The rallies rejecting the arrest and imprisonment of rapper Pablo Hasél, condemned for “exaltation of terrorism and insults and slanders against the monarchy and the forces and security organs of the State”, resulted on Friday in a fourth night of altercations.

Since last Tuesday, when the first concentrations were recorded, several Spanish cities have been the scene of riots and police accusations which led to violent clashes between demonstrators and the authorities and extensive damage.

This Friday, several Catalan cities recorded what was the fourth night of protests, with Barcelona as the main scene of the altercations and also of a university strike in support of the rapper, which on the other hand was settled without major incidents.

It was not until the night when the city recorded the first violent incidents, after The protesters moved towards Via Laietana, where the headquarters of the National Police in Barcelona is located, a building in front of which they concentrated. Protesters began to throw glass bottles and firecrackers at the building and the national police officers guarding it.

The Mossos d’Esquadra, located several meters below, gave a loudspeaker warning that they would act, and the protesters responded to the warning by advancing towards the line of Mossos vehicles.

Some 400 demonstrators left the Plaza Universitat, made their way to the Urquinaona square and to the Via Laietana between independence slogans and chants of “A for them”. The national police and the Mossos d’Esquadra both have a strong deployment, although until 8 p.m. they did not prevent the advance of the demonstrators.

Acts of violence were also recorded in other Catalan towns such as Girona, where the demonstrators painted with the slogans “ Death to Bourbon ” and “ Liberty Hasél ” on the windows of the Generalitat building of the city and fires were also started in the courts.

Some 500 people, according to local police, took part in this Friday’s demonstration, which started in Mercat de Lleó Square and passed through different parts of the city towards the headquarters of the Generalitat.

Protesters threw stones at the Mossos d’Esquadra in front of the courts, at which point the officers began to act and the protesters dispersed into the adjacent streets, and also threw containers and took glass to throw them at the police. .

In addition, In Villafranca del Penedés (Barcelona), violent groups launched fireworks at the police line guarding the Mossos d’Esquadra police station and threw stones and paint at the police signs guarding the station from police.
