The Great Blue Hole is the largest and deepest sink in the world and one of the least explored spaces by man up to now because of its enormous dimensions and its difficult access. The place, located near the reef of the lighthouse, is about 100 kilometers from Belize and is 300 meters in diameter and over 125 meters deep.

But on December 28, a team of scientists, including tycoon Richard Branson, managed to create a three-dimensional map in an expedition to discover that it's hidden inside.

According to CNN, the research team used two submarines to obtain shared hole images on the Instagram account of Aquatica Submarines, a company dedicated to submarine development for scientific research.

The oceanographer and operations manager of the work team, Erika Bergman, explained that one of the most interesting discoveries that he had made was the presence of stalactites.

"It was quite exciting, because it has not been mapped there before, nothing has been discovered there so far," said the scientist.

But without a doubt, for the researcher, the best thing about the expedition was the experience of immersion in the darkness that reigns in the hole.

"You lose all the sunlight and it becomes all black, and there, it is totally anoxic, without any life," said Bergman.

However, thanks to the technology used by the group, they were able to become familiar with the amazing features of the place. "You can be 20 or 30 meters from a stalactite or a piece of wall and see it with all the perfect details, better than what sight could provide," he said.

The team also drew attention to the fact that despite the high concentration of plastics in the oceans, the place was virtually free of waste.

"Basically, there were two or three small pieces of plastic, and apart from that, it was very, very clear," commented the oceanographer.

"It is good that there are spaces on our planet, and most of them in the oceans, which are exactly as they were thousands of years ago and will continue to To be exactly in the future, "he said.
