The third wave due to covid is represented by young adults, a phenomenon that surprised medical staff like 24-year-old nurse Rosa, who works in the Covid-19 area of ​​Polanco hospital, Coacalco unit: “The youngest person I saw here is 18 … patients my age or a few years older and already intubated, it’s frustrating”, he pretends.

Joab thinks he may have had it on public transport. Living with her grandparents and parents, her precautions to avoid bringing the virus home were strict. He never stopped working and after relaxed public health measures, he tested positive. At home, only her mother was also infected a few days after being vaccinated against COVID-19, however, she was able to recover at home without any complications.

The young population has not yet been vaccinated, one of the reasons for the increase in complications being the Gama and Delta variants those that have been detected the most.

Karina is 18 years old, her brother, the same age, attended a meeting with friends where security measures were void. María Fernanda has asthma, is 27 years old and will be released after nine days in hospital. His possible contagion, he believes, could be at an amusement park he frequented with his three-year-old daughter or the possibility that the minor had come into contact with an infected person.

The excruciating body pains, back pain, fever and pressure in the chest made her family decide to admit it, adding the highest risk after suffering from asthma. He remembers the days his daughter told him on a video call “I miss you, I don’t know what to do without you”, how strong he knew he would have to be to get home soon.

The Hospital Polanco Coacalco unit is one of the hospitals that receives patients infected with COVID-19, but after the increase in infections, it begins to reach its carrying capacity. Medical staff treated patients between the ages of 18 and 49, releasing 98%, however, this continues to be a phenomenon that has gained attention.
