International Book Day: Why it's celebrated on April 23 – 22/04/2019

The April 23 It contains three celebrations related to culture, the author and the book. Its origin does not go back so long in time: it was only at the beginning of the last century that it was recognized in some countries and several decades later it was adopted in the world whole.

The Spanish and English authors have much to do so that in 1926, in Catalonia, under the impulse of the writer Vicente Clavel Andrés, the idea of ​​institutionalizing the Book day.

The Catalan proposed his project to the Official Chamber of the Book of Barcelona and was later approved by King Alfonso XIII. But the proposal took time to materialize internationally.

The choice was April 23 by a surprising coincidence: the same day, in 1616, they died Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra; the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare; and the Spanish writer Inca Garcilaso of the Vega.

However, it was not until 1995 that this project became a celebration around the world thanks to a project of International Publishers Union (UTE), which presented it to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture.
