Iran: Swiss diplomat’s last message to fall from 17th floor

A new clue on the death of the Swiss diplomat who fell on Tuesday from the 17th floor of the building where he lived in Iran, he joined the investigation yesterday. The woman, who served at her country’s embassy in Tehran, is said to have left a handwritten letter in which he made a few requests.

According to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Sylvie Brunner left a farewell message that read: “Cremate my body and bury me with my son (…) After my death, bring my body back to Switzerland and give all my money and everything I have to my other son.”.

The letter was found yesterday by security forces in the Iranian capital and did not have a date or signature with which it could be linked to Brunner, so the investigation will continue.

Already on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the national first aid service, Mojtaba Jaledi, had announced that no hypothesis on the tragedy, whether it was a homicide, a suicide or an accident, had not been ruled out.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry, through its director Ignazio Cassis, also reported, and in the diplomat “died of a fatal accident” and expressed his “sincere condolences to the family”.

The Swiss Embassy in Tehran has also represented the interests of the United States in Iran since the breakdown of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1980.
