The Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, one of the architects of the 2015 nuclear deal with the United States, announced Monday night that he was resigning from his post.
In a country where most social networks are blocked and censored by the Persian regime, Zarif decided to make this announcement via his Instagram account.
"I am very grateful to the dear and honorable people of Iran for the last 67 months, and I sincerely apologize for the impossibility of continuing to serve and for all the shortcomings of the service." Be happy and honest "said the Persian official in his brief statement.
In recent months, the local press speculated on the possibility of Zarif's resignation, something that finally ended up happening on Monday.
The official He led the negotiations led by the Iranian regime that culminated in the 2015 nuclear deal with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and China.
However, he was then at the center of criticism of the most conservative sectors of the country after The United States withdrew from the agreement last May and reinstated the sanctions that had been lifted under the agreement.
The semi-official news agency Tasnim stated that "some sources have confirmed the resignation of Zarif", but it was not clear whether President Hbadan Rouhani would accept it.
Zarif led the Iranian Chancellery during the first Rohani government between 2013 and 2017and was kept in office during the re-election of the president.
