Mariam Nabatanzi, from Uganda, has a rare disease that made her most fertile and had 25 children when she was only 23 years old. Since then, this has not stopped.
Mariam Nabatanzi reached her baby record at 36 and all of the same father. Today, at age 39, she is forced to bring them up alone because her husband abandoned her and left her alone responsible for the entire clan. They discovered why this is so fertile
The children are three groups of quadruplets, four groups of triplets and six groups of twins. Mariam married only 12 years old and her husband was 40 years old. He abandoned it 3 years ago and turned his life into a tragedy. The family currently lives in four narrow houses built with cement bricks and a corrugated iron roof. They are surrounded by coffee plantations.
After the birth of her first twins, Nabatanzi consulted a doctor to treat her unusual case. He told her that he had told her that he had exceptionally large ovaries, which made her extremely sick. fertile. His advice was not to use contraceptives, such as pills, as they could cause health problems. As a result, the children would continue to arrive.
Large families are common in Africa. Although women in Uganda often give birth to an average of 5.6 children, one of the highest birth rates on the continent according to the World Bank, Mariam's family is even considered to be very large.
Mariam tried somehow to stop her constant pregnancies, but it was very difficult for her. At the age of 23 and 25 children, she was desperate to see her doctor and once again she advised him to continue her pregnancy because her number of ovaries was very high. Since her last pregnancy, two and a half years ago, she had complications. When she gave birth to her sixth group of twins, one of them did not survive the birth. As a result, her husband, often absent, left her completely.
"I grew up crying, my man suffered a lot," said Mariam, tears in his eyes. "I spent all my time looking after my children and making money," he added. The woman worked on everything that happened to her. hairdresser, event designer, second-hand dealer, local ginner, among others, her salary has always been spent on family food, medical care, clothing and tuition.
But still, Mariam is not alone. Her older children are already heads of families and help her in everything she needs. His eldest son, Ivan Kibuka, left school to help raise the family. The 23-year-old girl told us, "Mom is overwhelmed, work is crushing her, we help where we can, like cooking and laundry, but she still bears the burden for the family." I'm sorry for she. "
Some children have the chance to sleep at least on a mattress. Twelve of them sleep in a small room with walls full of earth, in metal bunk beds and thin mattresses. In the other rooms, children sit on shared mattresses. The others sleep on the dirt floor.
A doctor used his sperm in fertility treatments. And now he has 50 children!
