Islamic State and al-Qaida attacks in Syria have killed nearly 50 people

Islamic State and al-Qaeda militiamen attacked government forces in two different locations in Syria, leaving nearly 50 dead Allied soldiers and combatantsactivists and an organization monitoring the war said Saturday.

Liwa al-Quds, a pro-government militia, confirmed the ambush, saying that he had sent troops to release the two fought battalions, formed of nearly 500 soldiers, east of the village of Al-Sukhna.

In Facebook, the militia said that had broken the siege and freed the surviving soldiersand later, they transferred the corpses of their fighters and their damaged vehicles to a safe place.

The Islamic State lost its last territories in Syria in March after months of battles with Kurdish-led fighters backed by the United States in the province of Deir el-Zourin the east of the country, but the militia were still active in the desert west of Deir el-Zour, where they had taken refuge and where they were attacking more and more soldiers and militias allied with the government.

The group, who came to control large areas in Syria and Iraq, maintained a network of dormant cells active in both countries, as well as its media activities.

The press agency Aamaq, linked to the extremist group, reported the attack in the west of Al-Sukhna, claiming that militants had killed nearly two dozen Syrian soldiers in 24 hours of clashes. He added that the militants had also confiscated ammunition and vehicles from the Syrian government.

On the other hand, the government forces were attacked by insurgents from Hayat Tahir al-Sham, a group linked to Al Qaedain northwestern Syria, where there should be a ceasefire.
