Israel appoints Argentinian Dani Dayan as head of Jerusalem Holocaust Museum

The Israeli government appointed Argentina this Sunday Dani Dayan as president of the memorial of the Shoah Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. It thus puts an end to the controversy raised by the previous Prime Minister, who had proposed a controversial figure of the radical right.

As reported by the Jewish News Agency (AJN), Dayan left Argentina at 15, when he emigrated to Israel.

“He started a high-tech company and then sold it, leaving business behind for politics with the then unique mission of save the settlement movement and preserve the Land of Israel“, underlined the AJN.

In 2007, he was elected to head the Council of Yesha. Secular and fluent in Spanish, Hebrew and English, Dayan has been successful in building bridges between the Council and mainstream Israel, as well as with the international community.

As a result, AJN noted, a special envoy post was created for him on the board, even after he stepped down from his leadership role in 2013.

Benjamin Netanyahu appointed him Consul General of Israel in New York in 2016.
