Israeli authorities reject one-year “delusional ultimatum” given by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to reach peace deal and clarify Palestinian state borders, based on the situation before the 1967 war.

Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN and Ambassador to the United States, Gilad Erdan, stated that Abbas “has shown again that this is no longer relevant” and cited a recent poll which indicates that 80% of Palestinians are unhappy with its management..

“Those who truly support peace and negotiations do not threaten delusional ultimatums from the United Nations platform, as he did in his speech (to the United Nations General Assembly)”He indicated this through a message posted on his account on the social network Twitter.

Thus, the Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN stressed that “Abu Mazen’s speech – the nickname Abbas is known by – was full of lies, most of them about his refusal and the Palestinians’ refusal to achieve peace.”.

Abbas again urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday to convene an international peace conference to address the situation in the Middle East.. “Our patience and the patience of our people have a limit,” he told the United Nations General Assembly, where he returned to defend the Palestinian right to “existence” and its own “identity”, who also manages to “defend” the land he considers his own.

Thus, he appealed to UN resolutions and international law to claim a new scenario and proposes that the Middle East Peace Quartet – the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia – take over the reins.

In order to achieve tangible progress, stipulated a period of one year to resolve outstanding issues, which is believed to be complicated given Israel’s refusal, regardless of the government in power, to consider the cession of colonized territories to configure a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

“If not, why should Israel’s recognition of the 1967 borders be maintained? “asked Abbas, who regretted that the Israeli authorities have historically “ignored” the two-state solution the United Nations is demanding, for example.

Abbas added that Palestinians would also go to the International Court of Justice “Because of the problem of the legality of the occupation of Palestinian state land.”

On the other hand, he reaffirmed that the Palestine Liberation Organization is “the only legitimate representative” of the Palestinians and expressed his commitment to organize legislative and presidential elections “as soon as it is guaranteed that they are held in Jerusalem”.

“Let me state that we did not cancel the elections (of May 22), we only postponed them because we could not hold them in Jerusalem”He said, defending the creation of a unity government by then and reaffirming that in the “coming months” there will be municipal elections, for unions and universities.

He also assured that he maintained “A constructive dialogue with the American administration to resume Palestinian-American relations” after having criticized countries which “say they share values with Israel” and which, according to him, have contributed to Israel “rejecting and violating all UN resolutions”.

The Middle East peace process to achieve a two-state solution has stalled for years.
