Israel and the United States have completed a series of tests of the air defense system "David Honda", reported Tuesday the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
The trial was conducted with the participation of the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), under the leadership of RAFAEL Technology Companyat a test site in southern Israel.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the tests demonstrated the "advanced system capabilities" in "different scenarios simulating future threats" to the "David Honda" system, which works with the most famous "Iron Dome".
"I applaud the success of this series of tests on "Honda's David", that comes after the Arrow-3 missile test, "said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"Israel continues to be one of the world leaders in the development of missile defense systems. I ask for special recognition and gratitude from our ally and partner, the United States, for the development of this important initiative."he added.
Moshe Patel, director of IMDO, reported in a video provided to the press that during the trial, different targets were intercepted that simulated the expected threats in the region. "The system has managed to intercept each of these threats," he said, adding that their deployment of weapons would begin.
"David Honda" is a common development between RAFAEL and the American company Raytheon. Elta, a state-owned Israeli defense company, is responsible for the Radar and Elbit Systems of Combat Management Control (BMC) systems.
In turn, "David's Honda" is part of a four-layer defensive system developed by the IMDO, which also includes the "Iron Dome" and the Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 missiles.
The development of this type of defensive weapons has been a priority of Israel in recent yearsSince terrorist groups operating in the region and vowing to destroy the country, such as Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon, often launch rockets and mortar shells into Israeli territory.
In addition, the memory still persiststhe bombing of ballistic missiles in the various Israeli-Arab wars and even in the first Gulf War, when Iraq fired Scud missiles against Tel Aviv.
In this context, Israel perceives Syria and Iran as possible aggressors with missiles of this type, of short and medium range.
