The government of Nicaragua announced yesterday, in a press release, that he was "willing to make full daily visits and meetings to headquarters, while waiting for the badistance of his counterpart, "but the Civic Alliance has stated that he will not continue to the negotiating table until the government fails to comply with the agreements signed on March 29th.

The Nicaraguan government and the Civic Alliance concluded the negotiating table on April 3 in order to overcome the crisis that erupted almost a year ago, with no agreement on issues of justice and democratization, even though it was not possible to reach a conclusion. they left the door open for further negotiations.

Among the agreements signed on April 29 between the government and the Alliance, it is stated that, within 90 days from March 20, the government would release the imprisoned protesters and cancel the legal proceedings against them. After the signing of this agreement, only 50 people were released, but precautionary measures were taken and trials continue.

The government is also committed to respecting constitutional guarantees and the right to freedom of expression and peaceful protest. However, all demonstrations after the signing of the agreements were suppressed by police and supporters of the ruling party.

According to the Alliance, the government has not complied with the release of "political prisoners" or the respect of the Constitution for public freedom and press freedom.

With regard to democratization, the opposition has proposed constitutional reforms as well as electoral reforms, in addition to advancing the presidential elections scheduled for November 2021, which have also not been accepted by the executive.
