This Tuesday, the humanitarian commission of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the office of the mediator arrived in Port-au-Prince (Haiti) to verify the conditions in which are found the 18 mercenaries captured for the assassination of the president of this country.

The Commission verified this week that those captured were being fed and, in addition, it was known that their relatives had sent them messages and sent them grooming kits.

“During the visit, we were able to talk to the 18 Colombians who passed in groups of two. We analyze their physical and mental health, we review the conditions of detention in which they are, but they also learned about certain key elements of the process which is currently being carried out against them ”, assured Luis Andrés Fajardo, vice-defender of the people.

The prosecutor’s report states that the mercenaries met for nearly four hours with the Deputy People’s Advocate, a lawyer from the Office of the Public Defender and the leader of Colombians abroad, who make up the commission. The meeting took place in two.

According to the dialogues between Colombia and Haiti, the visit had as The objective is to check the state of health and conditions of detention of ex-soldiers, in addition, so that their families can have information, letters or videos from them.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Marta Lucía Ramírez indicated that Colombians “have not received any form of legal assistance, as they do not have public defenders assigned to protect the rights of the defense and respect judicial guarantees and due process “.

He also demanded that adequate medical care be guaranteed to those injured because otherwise “it is a violation of Article 5 of the aforementioned American Convention, which requires respect for the physical, mental and moral integrity of detained persons” .

On the other hand, Colombian officials also aimed to address the issue of repatriation of the bodies of Colombians killed during the capture operation; However, for this procedure, Colombian diplomats had to have the order of a Haitian judge, as they are still under investigation and these would be important in determining the facts in which President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated.

For his part, the Mediator, Carlos Camargo, indicated that he had permanent dialogues with some of the representatives of the nearly 80 Colombians living in Haiti, who expressed the anxiety in which they find themselves in the face of the political crisis and to this Caribbean country confronted, after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, on July 7.

In the middle of a press conference, the director of the Colombian police, General Jorge Luis Vargas, stressed that according to the investigations of the Haitian authorities and the collaboration of other countries, it is presumed that the order to assassinate the president was won by a former official named Joseph Félix Badio, who informed former Colombian soldiers Germán Rivera and Duberney Capador of the change in the kidnapping plan.

“During a meeting with Joseph Félix Badio and another person, Germán Rivera and Duberney Capador are informed that the President of Haiti will be arrested. The operation for this process begins. They move into a house near the President of Haiti and find vehicles. Joseph Félix Badio tells Capador and Rivera that they must assassinate the Haitian president ”, General Vargas reported this Friday at noon.

After the disclosure of this information, the General Police explained that this Haitian citizen worked at the Ministry of Justice and joined the Anticorruption Unit of the government of the Caribbean country in March 2012, but that he is currently a fugitive from justice. .
