Hiroshi Sugano lives in a 9m² apartment. He is one of the young professionals in Tokyo who have chosen to live in tiny but well-located houses.

“Rent and living expenses would be cheaper in the suburbs, but it would be too far from work. Taking a crowded train from the suburb is mentally and physically exhausting,” he told the BBC.
