On March 9, Jason Momoa, an American actor known for his role as “ Aquaman ”, and his work in the popular Game of Thrones series, as Khal Drogo, shocked his Colombian followers by uploading a video to his Instagram account, in which he wore a boyacense ruana. In the footage, the Hawaiian actor praised the garment and its designers, and gained appreciation from national figures for mentioning the native product. The artisans and designers of Tejidos Rebancá were in charge of making Momoa’s garment and, for an interview with Noticias Caracol, they spoke about their experience with the actor.

Francisco Gómez, designer of Tejidos Rebancá, explained, among others, that Momoa himself was in charge of the choice of clothing colors, and that they got in touch with the actor who plays the King of the Seven Seas, Aquaman, through a frequent client of the company.

“Thanks to her, we were able to establish a bridge with him, a contact with him, and let’s say that in a dialogue between her, him and we found this design that he wanted”, Gomez told the Caracol Channel Newscast.

The ruana, which has become one of Momoa’s favorite clothes, It was made with a fabric woven on a loom over 80 years old, with three kilos of wool, and it took a month and a half to make it, in a house of peasant craftsmen near the town of Iza.

“We were lucky that he had already picked the colors and picked the design, the only thing that worried us a bit was that it would fit him well in his size and that he liked it”Silvino Patiño, director of Rebancá fabrics, told the same media.

In the video, Momoa is seen walking her dog and walking around her house. As you walk through where you are, the actor begins to describe one by one the clothes he wears, from his shoes to the ruana de Rebancá.

His shoes were part of a limited edition of the So iLL x On The Roam collection, a garment born from his initiative, from the hand of the So iLL brand, for creating eco-friendly clothing: sneakers have organic cotton top layer, seaweed insoles and cork top layer and biodegradable soles.

After describing her shoes, Momoa asks someone to help her record her whole body, this is where she shows the ruana. The American actor smiles as he turns around to wear it and expresses his gratitude to the artisans who made it.

“Thanks to Tejidos Rebancá for his incredible know-how (…) all handmade in Colombia. I was really impressed and want five more. “

For Francisco, it is an honor to see an actor of Momoa’s stature exhibit, on his platform of more than 15 million followers., a product made in Colombia, for him, as he told Caracol, it is a great opportunity for foreigners to take an interest in national and artisanal products.

“The idea was to show, let’s say, that all the techniques we handle are above all flat weaving on horizontal fabric and hand embroidery. So from there we created the garment. Let’s say that what caught his attention the most was all the manual work that the garment itself carried ” underlined the designer.
