John Bolton denied Sunday that the summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un held in Hanoi, Vietnam, was a failure due to the lack of agreement on the denuclearization of North Korea.

The second high-level meeting to reach a nuclear disarmament agreement between the North Korean dictator and the President of the United States has ended without progress and without even a joint statement.

During an interview with CBS's "Face The Nation" program, Bolton badured that the summit was "a success" in ensuring that Trump was "a president who protects and defends the national interests of the United States."

"The president has thus maintained his point of view and deepened his relations with Kim Jong-un. I do not see it as a failure at all when the national interests of the United States are protected, "he said.

The result in Hanoi was well below expectations before the meeting, after critics claimed that their historic meeting in Singapore prompted Kim's vague pledge to work "for the total denuclearization of the Korean peninsula." – had lack of substance.
