The founder of the McAfee antivirus, the American John McAfee was found dead Wednesday in his cell at Brians prison in Barcelona, ​​Spanish media reported.

A judicial delegation went to the penitentiary to study the causes of death and, according to these sources, everything indicates that it is a suicide.

The same Wednesday, earlier, the National Court of Spain had authorized McAfee’s extradition to the United States, where he faced tax evasion charges.

During the extradition hearing, the businessman, whose tax debt in the United States amounts to more than four million dollars, assured paying “millions of dollars in taxes” and claiming to have been the victim of political persecution for exposing corruption within the tax agency.

Contrary to the defense thesis, the court ruled out that there were any indications of “persecution for political, ideological or similar reasons” since, “beyond the verbal allegations” of McAfee, no “Any telling clue” that he might be subjected to it.

He was arrested in October at Barcelona airport as he was about to catch a flight to the Turkish city of Istanbul and has been in preventive detention since then. The arrest took place at the behest of American justice, which accused McAfee, 75, for evading millions of dollars in taxes on profits allegedly generated from activities such as cryptocurrency trading.
