Juan Guaidó accused Nicolás Maduro of politicizing access to COVID-19 vaccines

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó on Saturday accused Nicolás Maduro of making political use of access to vaccines against the COVID-19 disease in the country, who recorded 1,475 deaths for this disease, and urged the dictator to finish this practice.

“The politicization that the dictatorship intends to give to administer the vaccine must be put aside, they cannot continue to discriminate and generate social control through the aid necessary for Venezuelans”says Guaido, who is recognized as interim president of Venezuela by many countries.

The opposition-led political group has agreed to seek permission from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for access the funds that Venezuela has withheld in that country and pay for 12 million coronavirus vaccines through the Covax mechanism.

This is, in the opinion of the opponent, a “Important agreement that aims to save lives as a priority”.

The Venezuelan opposition will make this request, because United States recognizes Guaidó as president after proclaiming himself as such in 2019 ignoring the second term of Maduro, elected in 2018 in questionable elections.

“This is not all that is needed, but obviously it is far from what we have seen recently that the dictatorship is doing. Health should not be isolated at this time, on the contrary, we must go and save lives at this time “, the opponent insisted in a statement he himself shared via his Twitter account.

In the midst of this political crisis in Venezuela, The United States has imposed a series of sanctions that prevent the Venezuelan executive from accessing funds in that country and which were qualified by Guaidó as a measure of “protection” given that Chavismo stole state resources.

As part of his proclamation, the interim president appointed a series of positions in institutions, although he never controls them, including the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV).

In order to respond to the request to OFAC, you must first ask the issuing entity – which is not recognized by Madur – for a “Debt” for “$ 30,309,040”.

Of this amount, $ 18,199,040 would have to be paid for access to the Covax platform and $ 12,110,000 for the investment in the cold chain for the vaccination plan against the COVID-19 diseasesays the text approved Friday by opponents.

So far, Maduro’s executive has reported on the reception in the country of 700,000 vaccines, including Russian Sputnik V and Chinese Sinopharm, which were applied to part of the health personnel, senior government authorities and hundreds of political operators linked to Chavisme.
