The leader of the opposition, Juan Guaidó, recognized as the responsible president of Venezuela for more than fifty countries, said Thursday in Brasilia that he was planning to return to Venezuela "in the coming days (…) despite the threats."

"In the coming days, I will come back to Caracas despite the threats," Guaidó said. at a press conference after meeting with President Jair Bolsonaro.

Before the press conference, Guaidó made a joint statement with Bolsonaro. "We are fighting for free elections, under the Constitution, democratic elections," Guaidó said in his brief speech.

Guaidó arrived in Brasilia this morning, coming from Bogota, aboard a Colombian air force plane, after leaving his country by land for Colombia last Friday.

His move to Colombia challenged the ban on leaving the country dictated by Venezuelan justice, who justified the decision in an inquiry related to his proclamation as interim president on January 23. Since then, Maduro threatens imprisonment in each of his public interventions.
