A few hours earlier, Lasso had received the Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, representing Guaidó. The meeting took place this Tuesday in the Carondelet Palace, seat of the Ecuadorian government, and was broadcast by both parties. “Today I had the opportunity to speak with Leopoldo López and Lilian Tintori, great Venezuelan leaders committed to freedom and democracy in the region. I appreciate your visit, Ecuador will always have its doors open, ”Lasso wrote on his Twitter account.

For its part, López and his wife also discussed the meeting on their social networks. and they pointed out that Lasso was very categorical in the need to attend the humanitarian drama suffered by Venezuelans who are in Ecuador. Among other proposals, the possibility of creating employment plans for the thousands of expatriates who fled the repression and misery in Venezuela was raised.

“We met with President Guillermo Lasso to discuss the situation of the nearly 500,000 Venezuelans who are in Ecuador today.. In 2014, there were only 900 compatriots on Ecuadorian lands. Today there are almost 500,000, ”López tweeted.

The leader of Voluntar Popular also underlined that “with the president we talked the need to achieve regularization of immigration status. Sunday, the day before Lasso is sworn in as president, López met with the mayor of the city of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri. “We are in Guayaquil to meet dozens of Venezuelans who continue their fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela”, He also said via his Twitter account. “There are already more than 7 million Venezuelans who had to leave our land, not because we wanted to but because we had done so”, added.

Along with the post, the Venezuelan opponent said that during his meeting with Viteri he addressed issues such as “The humanitarian and social crisis that Venezuela is going through, the political prisoners and the constant violation of the human rights of all Venezuelans”. For his part, Viteri also shared a message about this meeting on his Twitter account and confirmed that Venezuela “They will always have our support for whatever they need.”
