Juan Guaidó thanked the participation of the United States, Canada and the EU in the dialogue with the regime of Nicolás Maduro

Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaidó Saturday thanked the United States, Canada and the European Union (EU) for their support in the negotiation process with the regime of Nicolás Maduro which began on Friday in Mexico and which during that day took place in secrecy.

“We thank the United States, Canada and the European Union for their support in the negotiating process that began yesterday to reach a comprehensive agreement in Venezuela. We have all our provisions so that the process allows a solution to the crisis and the rescue of our democracy “Guaidó said in a message on Twitter.

United States, Canada and EU they trusted this Saturday that the new dialogue between the regime and the Venezuelan opposition will produce “lasting agreements”, and they recalled that they are ready to review their sanctions against Venezuela if there are “significant advances” in the negotiations.

In a joint statement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken; the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Marc Garneau; they welcomed the negotiations.

“We urge all parties to engage (in a dialogue) in good faith to reach lasting agreements that lead to a comprehensive solution to the Venezuelan crisis,” said the three diplomats.

They said the process helps “restore the country’s democratic institutions”. and ensure that “all Venezuelans can express themselves politically through free and fair elections” at the “local, parliamentary and presidential” level.

In addition, they reiterated their “desire to review” their respective “sanctions policies” against Venezuela. “If the regime (of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro) makes significant progress in the talks announced.”

Borrell, Blinken and Garneau had already announced, in another joint statement last June, this possibility of initiating a lifting of sanctions on Caracas in the event of “significant progress in a comprehensive negotiation” which would repair “the country’s institutions” and allow free elections.

For his part, the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated this Saturday as a culmination the start of negotiations with the opposition, led by Juan Guaidó, who proposed this new round of talks taking place in Mexico last May.

The tyrant called the start of the talks “a monumental and extraordinary event for the peace of the country”.
