Justin Verlander's Gem, George Springer's Grand Slam Seals Astros' Victory over Angels
ANAHEIM, CA – Crowd breaks out with two days of applause when Shohei Ohtani, the rookie Japanese with mbadive fans watches him from nearly 9,000 miles, doubled to the right field wall to put the runners to second and third.
He scored the ball away from the Los Angeles Angels and base that they reached Saturday night at Angels Stadium. That's because Justin Verlander was launching for the Astros.
The sharpness of Verlander in this dominant season is the clearest when he comes out of the stretch. With a runner, he turns the throws into razor blades that cut the area, cut the shots and cut the rallies.

Verlander earned his 10th win and 198th overall, which he missed in the combined six-game heats of Josh Reddick's series and George Springer's grand slam to defeat the Angels 7-0. Nick Fereano has maintained his five innings at his first start since arriving on the injured list with an inflammation of the shoulder.
The Astros managed two innings in four innings on Yuli Gurriel's sacrificial fly and Tony Kemp's double. bringing the angels down into the sixth. The Astros started the 1-by-9 heat with riders in the scoring position. Veteran reliever Jose Alvarez came into play for his 50th appearance in the lead of the major leagues
A brushed throw from Alvarez sent Reddick down. Reddick went to the next pitch and began a trot, knowing that he had screwed up his 10th circuit deep in the right stands.
The sleeve was getting worse for the squeezed Angels. Manager Mike Scioscia needed three lifters to get three outs.
Six of the seven Astros reached the base, which charged the bases of Springer. After throwing the ball, Springer stalled on the way to first place to turn to his teammates in the shelter and share a party.
The homer was his 16th of the season but the first since June 20th. Grand Slam on the road, which dominates Jeff Bagwell for an Astros record.
When he returned to the dugout, pitcher Gerrit Cole handed Springer's bat and slugger kissed him. That's the same bat used by Springer in the All-Star Game
"I'd better keep doing it," says Springer.
Any chance that the Angels had to defeat Verlander came from wishful thinking. He extended a scoreless series at the 23-run Angels Stadium.
Without Albert Pujols, who is on the disabled list, Ian Kinsler started the day with the highest average against Verlander of any Angels hitter. After being 1-in-3, Kinsler raised that to .186
Mike Trout, who starter Astros Dallas Keuchel called "the best batter in the world" a day earlier, was outclbaded. Verlander eliminated him twice, which allowed Trout 2-for-29 to face the career Angels
. This season, 61.5% of his pitches have been fast balls. He threw his radiator nearly 75% of the time on Saturday.
"It's one of the best fastballs he's had, and for good reason," said Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "He went out, made his shots – 16, 17 or 18 in a row – to get out of trouble and move on to the next set, then he had a long and long layoff, came out in sixth, got his outs. "
The quality of his strikeouts was more impressive than quantity. Five came on three sites;
