The earthquake occurred at 2:41 am local time with an epicenter located in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve in Loreto, a sparsely populated area of ​​the Peruvian Amazon, and lasted about a minute.

Its deep origin, 141 kilometers from the surface of the Earth, diluted its destructive power, but its seismic wave had a greater reach and was felt thousands of kilometers from the epicenter to reach the southern capitals Americans such as Lima, Quito and Bogotá.

In Ecuador, whose Institute of Geophysics estimated the earthquake at a magnitude of 8.09 on the Richter scale, at least six people were reported to have been injured in various provinces.

In Colombia, the Colombian geological department described the magnitude 8.3 earthquake on the Richter scale and its shock was felt in Bogotá and in other areas where emergency sirens were activated and hundreds of people have evacuated their homes.
