Latest Peru survey cuts Pedro Castillo’s lead over Keiko Fujimori to less than 1%

A poll published this Friday predicts 42.6% voting intention for Peru’s presidential candidate for Free Peru, Pedro Castillo, Y 41.7% for Popular Force contender Keiko Fujimori, which means a dead heat.

The survey, conducted by International Datum and published in the newspaper Peru 21, show that Castillo’s voting intention fell by nearly three percentage points compared to the last survey, while Fujimori achieved an increase of almost a percentage point, a little over a week before the elections, scheduled for June 6.

One of the causes attributable to the change in voting intention would be the discussion of technical teams of the candidates, which took place last Sunday, according to the station RPP.

Of those who claimed to have seen the debate, 54% consider the Fuerza Popular team to be the winner, while 26% think Free Peru was victorious. 18 percent say there was a tie or didn’t win.

The study, conducted May 25-27, had a target group of men and women between the ages of 18 and 70 of all socio-economic backgrounds, from both urban and rural areas of the country.

1,201 testimonials were obtained and it was a face-to-face exercise with a ballot issued by Datum. The margin of error was +/- 2.8% and the 95% confidence level. It is considered a technical equality when the difference between the candidates is less than the margin of error of the survey.

For its part, Castillo condemned the “cowardly attack” by terrorists and urged “justice to apply the full weight of the law”.
