Faced with the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas, more than a hundred personalities and leaders of the political and social arena signed a letter with the title: “Once again Gaza, another policy of systematic massacre”.

In the text, which was signed by personalities such as the journalist Horacio Verbitsky, the musician Carlos “Indian ”Solari and the official legislator Ophelia Fernandez, demanded “the immediate end of the bombardments” and accused the government of Israel of “untold crimes”.

“We demand an immediate end to the bombing of Gaza and respect for public international law, to restore the essential peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis; at the same time as we hold the Netanyahu government accountable for the imprescriptible crimes against the Palestinian people, ”the letter said.

Verbitsky and Solari were also joined by the writer Rita segato, the actress Luisa Kuliok, writer Mempo Giardinelli and actor Osvaldo Santoro among the signatories. Among the more than a hundred names who accompanied the initiative, academic figures, artists, journalists, scientists, bloggers, lawyers, politicians and artists stood out.

“The right-wing ruling Israel lets us know, once again, what is on offer in Gaza,” he started the letter and continued, “CNN is photographically recording postcards of the ongoing massacre. Hamas had demanded hours before that the Israeli police withdraw from the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, “where hundreds of Palestinians were injured.”

The letter went on to highlight reports from the US News Channel which for weeks reported how “Israeli ultra-nationalists provoked Muslim believers with the active complicity of the local police.”

“It is an escalation which has just started,” said the signatories, who stressed: “Over the days, the deaths, of both peoples, do not cease. They tend to increase while respecting the same military asymmetry. Rockets against air attacks ”.

“Until when? For what?”we asked them in the letter. “The people who signed below, Jews and non-Jews, demand an immediate end to the bombing of Gaza and respect for public international law, to restore the essence of the peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis ; at the same time as we hold the Netanyahu government responsible for indiscriminate crimes against the Palestinian people, ”they concluded.

Since last Monday, Gaza has been the target of Israeli bombardment, and more than 3,000 rockets have been fired from the Strip into Israel, most intercepted by Israel’s defense system, the Iron Dome. The latest balance sheet of the Palestinian authorities estimates that 200 deaths have been exceeded, including 58 children. On the Israeli side, there are so far 10 dead and more than 560 injured.

Riots that took weeks but erupted in recent days, began with the start of Ramadan when the Israeli police erected fences around the Damascus Gate, which generated multiple protests, and reached its peak of tension yesterday afternoon, when Hamas launched a ultimatum, which then filled the police force at 18 ”.
