LIVE: Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un meet in Vietnam

Donald Trump meet on Wednesday in Hanoi the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, to whom he once again promised a bright future if North Korea finally agreed to give up its nuclear arsenal.

18.50: The private meeting takes place at the Sofitel Métropole Hotel, one of the most valuable vestiges of French colonial Vietnam, with great architectural value and a rich history of anecdotes.

18.39: The two leaders told the press for a few minutes and were optimistic about achieving the summit's goals. They plan to meet alone for about 20 minutes before sharing a dinner with four of their counselors.

18.36: Kim said that he was certain that progress would be well received by the population. "I will do my best to make that happen."

16h45: Donald Trump has criticized the speculation of the press and badured that he will try to work with Kim to denuclearize and make North Korea an economic power.

The first summit between the US president and the North Korean leader in June in Singapore concluded with a vague declaration on "the denuclearization of the North Korean peninsula", but without any concrete commitment.

A few hours before this new appointment, followed with attention in many parts of the world, the US President tried to convince Kim by showing the example in Vietnam, a communist country that embraced capitalism and left behind the confrontation with the White House.

The United States has repeatedly called on Pyongyang to get rid of its nuclear arsenal in a comprehensive, verifiable and irreversible way, which has earned it an impressive series of UN sanctions in recent years.

For its part, North Korea denounces what it considers to be American threats: its military presence in South Korea and in the region in general.
