Lula Da Silva published a letter from the Pope | Chronic

Pope Francis sent a letter to Lula da Silva, former president of Brazil imprisoned since April 2018, in which he regrets "Difficult tests" that he had to go through and he urged "do not give up" of the struggle. Although the text does not contain explicit political definitions, some phrases may be understood as a description of the current political situation in the country.

On his website, Lula published the text in Portuguese in which Francisco expresses his solidarity with the South American leader for the death of his wife, Marisa Leticia Rocco, in 2017, and those of his brother Genivaldo Inácio da Silva and his seven-year-old grandson, Arthur Araújo Lula da Silva, who died this year.

"Considering the hardships he has experienced in recent times, especially the loss of some of his relatives (…) I want to manifest my spiritual closeness and ask him not to become discouraged and to continue to trust God"The Pope says in his letter of May 3. The letter is a response from the pontiff to a letter that the former Brazilian president sent him on March 29. In this letter, Francisco says:"Good will conquer evil, truth will overcome falsehood, and salvation will overcome condemnation. "

He therefore asks Jesus and the Virgin Mary to "protect " to the leader of the Workers Party and you "ensures " his prayer, while thanking him for the information he had written in the letter on the Brazilian political situation, which he defined as "very useful".

A difficult reality

Lula is in prison and is serving a sentence of eight years and ten months, after being convicted of a case revealing a network of corruption in the state oil company Petrobras and involving large construction companies and the politicians of the country. The official website of Lula on the internet reminded that in 2018 the pope had sent a rosary to the former president.

This is the second time that the pope has been communicating with Lula since his incarceration. Last year, he sent with the rosary a message of peace written in the Italian version of the book "The truth will carry", which brings together several texts denouncing the arrest of the old President.
