The 75-year-old former president, who this week He returned to the political arena after the Supreme Court overturned his corruption convictions, defended vaccination and called on the government to redouble its efforts to immunize the entire population and streamline the process.

“We must fight the deniers, fight those who do not believe in the vaccine and tell society nothing but nonsense”added the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) in a clear allusion to Bolsonaro, leader of the Brazilian far right who questioned not only the severity of the pandemic, but also the effectiveness and safety of vaccines.

Lula defended the vaccine regardless of the country of origin

He added that he did not understand how Brazil, a country that has benchmark institutions in science and medicine like the Butantan Institute and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and with one of the largest and most successful vaccination logistics in the world, not having its own vaccine or with a more advanced vaccination campaign.
