Macri asked Congress to repeal the election of legislators of Parlasur

"I ask the National Congress to repeal the law requiring this renewal and to ensure that the deputies and senators who represent us already do so in Parliament, as do Brazil and Uruguay", maintained the president.

On his Twitter account, the head of state said that "It costs a fortune to maintain the unnecessary expense of having a new group of representatives in Parliament at each election."

Thus, the leader of PRO urged the Congress to repeal the law 27 120 on the elections of parliamentarians of Mercosur, sanctioned in December 2014, which provides that legislators of Parlasur are elected by direct vote.

Although Mercosur has established that by 2020, all parliamentarians in the bloc should be elected by direct suffrage, the only countries that do so are Paraguay and Argentina, which have 41 representatives in the regional legislature: one for each district and 17 at the national level.

Legislators from the composition of the Congress since December will fulfill these functions.
