Macri asked to repeal the law that establishes the election of Parlasur

The head of state claimed that it was an "unnecessary expense" and that "it costs a fortune".

President Mauricio Macri asked Congress "to repeal" the law that establishes the election of legislators of member states Parlasur through the vote because "it costs a fortune" and asked deputies and senators to be the representatives of the country in the regional Legislative Assembly.

"I ask the National Congress to repeal the law that requires this renewal and that the deputies and senators who represent us already do so in Parliament like Brazil and Uruguay," said the president.

On his Twitter account, the head of state said that "it costs a fortune to maintain unnecessary spending that represents the creation of a new group of representatives to Parlasur at each election" .

Thus, the leader of PRO urged the Congress to repeal the law 27 120 on the elections of parliamentarians of Mercosur, sanctioned in December 2014, which provides that legislators of Parlasur are elected by direct vote.

Parlasur is the legislative body of Mercosur. Its headquarters are in Montevideo and has 186 members. Parliament is the largest member of Parliament (75 seats) in Parlasur, and Argentina is the second largest member with 43 members in total. The decisions of this body are not binding.

How are its members chosen in Argentina? With direct elections where each province, with the city of Buenos Aires, elects its own candidate (24 in total).
