President Mauricio Macri declared national mourning for July 18, on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the headquarters of the Israelite Argentina Mutual Association (AMIA), which left 85 dead and 300 wounded.

The measure was resolved by Decree 487/2019 published in the Official Journal. In this context, it is specified that this Thursday the national flag will remain hoisted at half mast in buildings and public places.

The text recalls in its recitals that "On July 18 of this year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the fatal terrorist attack at the headquarters of the Mutual Association Israelite in Argentina (AMIA) which has had painful and irreversible consequences for the Argentinians".

He also points out that "The magnitude of such a criminal event, which will cost the irreparable loss of precious and irreplaceable people, has left in the Argentine society feelings of repudiation and marked pain".

"In correspondence with the deep affection aroused to the Argentine people, the national government declares by means of the current day of national mourning on July 18, 2019, in tribute to all the victims of this as odious", adds the decree, which also signs the Minister of Justice, Germán Garavano.

Finally, advance that "The National Executive will make a remarkable mention of the commemoration of the aforementioned terrorist attack" as part of the speech that the Head of State will make in September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In this setting, it is added, Macri "Reiterate the request for cooperation addressed to the Islamic Republic of Iran in connection with the investigation into the facts and the trial of the officials with the Argentine judicial authorities".
