According to the head of state, the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 has exceeded 9,200, an index that had not been recorded since July.

Macron pointed out that the health crisis persists, but warned that “the country will have to live for many more months with the coronavirus epidemic.”

Macron also underlined the low vaccination rate in several French overseas territories, in particular in the Caribbean Guadeloupe and Martinique.

The day before, the French Minister for Overseas, Sebastien lecornou, denounced that the situation with the virus in the French Antilles was very serious.

Concretely, he revealed that in Guadeloupe the incidence of the disease rose the day before last night to more than 1,700 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and in Martinique 1,165.

On Monday, the prefecture of Martinique, where the confinement regime and a curfew had previously been imposed, reported a extension of quarantine measures on the island from 7:00 p.m. on August 10.

In addition, local authorities have urged tourists to leave the island’s territory.

Previously, the state of health emergency has been declared in three French overseas territories: Guadalupe, San Martín and San Bartolomé.
