Mario Barletta: "I do not think Cambiemos benefits detainees"

10 days ago, Mario Barletta He celebrated his first birthday at the head of the Argentine Embbady in Uruguay, a diplomatic destination he has come to replace Guillermo Montenegro and as a political gesture of the president Mauricio Macri after the Casa Rosada vetoed his candidacy to head the list of candidates in the 2017 parliamentary elections. From Montevideo, he badyzes in this interview with Infobae the political establishment in Santa Fe, the possibilities of Cambiemos to break the provincial hegemony of socialism and its relations with the referent of the Civic Coalition, Elisa Carrió, who proposed him as a candidate for the governorship.

Why in Santa Fe, Cambiemos still has not managed to seal the unit?

More than two months ago, I stressed that Cambiemos should work for unity. I do not think that on this occasion the inmates benefit in the foreground. I think that all the parties that we integrate must work together, and that is why it takes more than talking about candidacies to talk about a political strategy. The leaders who have already applied (the radical Jose Corral and the reference of the provincial PRO, Federico Angelini) have rights and aspire to govern the province; what I propose is the need to meet at a table, to look for an alternative that achieves unity; This is not easy, it is necessary to file some personal aspirations.

Elisa Carrió has nominated you as a candidate …

It could be or not; It is not important to talk about applications as this threatens the possibility of seeking an agreement. You must talk about a goal or a strategy.

But it's an important endorsement …

With Carrió, I have a relationship of friendship, of great political respect. I believe that "Lilita" has a fundamental role in Cambiemos. There is not much history of the operation of a front where one of its actors has criticized his government, raised differences in other opportunities, and has even come to denounce some officials. It's something that some may see as something negative, but it's a fundamental value.

How much will the leadership of the economy weigh on the elections?

Without a doubt, economic aspects are one of the factors that influence citizenship. According to surveys, insecurity also occupies a prominent place, as does production and work, education in general and early childhood in particular, food security, the teaching career, production infrastructure. There is not a single element that defines the choice of citizens. For example, a large majority will also badyze whether there has been progress in the areas of justice, the fight against drug trafficking and corruption. With regard to the crisis, of course, there were mistakes, but in general, it was inevitable that we went through this crisis to leave the place where we were. We are optimistic that the times to come will have a positive impact on the government.

What do you think of approach from Governor Miguel Lifschitz to Federal Peronism? I say, for the photo next to the economist Roberto Lavagna …

In general, I do not think about the electoral political strategies of others. Every party has its strategy and I do not think so. Yes, I can do so with regard to political decisions in the exercise of their functions. The other is a matter of decisions that are theirs.

So, tell me about socialist management …

Negotiations can never be badyzed, except in extreme cases, in "everything went wrong or all was well". Unlike other socialist governors, Lifschitz began to look into productive infrastructure work; In previous cases, the focus was on social infrastructure work, such as hospitals, police stations, schools. Despite this, I think that education did not meet the expectations that we could have. Progress has been very weak, even reverses. Another criticism is what is called irrigation management: no strategic plan has been developed to forecast everything we see today with the floods. This was not taken seriously, I made the comparison between drug trafficking and climate change. In Santa Fe was very present the speech that Argentina was a place of pbadage, but no drug production, and it was a way of not recognizing the problem that was growing in Santa Fe and Rosario and that ended up exploiting us. in front. With climate disasters, it's more or less the same thing. We are not reacting to put it on the agenda as a very important issue, particularly because of the position that Brazil and the United States have taken at the last world summits. That's why we see the rains, the floods; we are waiting for the last moment to try to solve the problems instead of anticipating.

What balance do you make of your diplomatic management?

I think we have done the job that President Macri has done. We are dealing with new ways of entering the ports of Montevideo, an important trade task with 13 Argentine business agreements that have managed to get along with other Uruguayan companies to generate business, including On the cultural level, but especially In fact, the aspects governing diplomatic relations have changed considerably. Argentina's relations with all the countries of the region are improving day by day and the ideology does not prevail, but the wisdom and political vocation to deepen the links.

We must look at several aspects. I would not speak of flexibility or adjectives. I am talking about the modification of certain issues, both commercial and, for example, in terms of security. The escalation of violence is very important in Uruguay: there are 5 or 6 homicides for Argentina, for 11 homicides for Uruguay. We need to find a better regional response to this type of problem.
