Mario Vargas Llosa denounces that the Peruvian government “took sides” with Pedro Castillo in the dispute over the elections

Hispano-Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa accused Peruvian government of “siding” with leftist candidate Pedro Castillo, during the recent presidential elections, the result of which was not formalized more than a month after the poll.

“It is clear that the government took sides in these elections for the seemingly humble candidate, from the most disadvantaged sectors of the country. I say apparently because it is very clear that this version is not an exact version, ”said Vargas Llosa at a ceremony in Madrid.

The writer played an active role in the pre and post election campaign, strongly supporting Keiko Fujimori and warning of the risks of a victory for Castillo.

“If this candidate becomes president, the catastrophe that all Peruvians will suffer will be immeasurable and will have a lot to do with what Venezuela is going through”said weeks ago.

For their part, the diplomatic missions of observers of the The Organization of American States (OAS) or the European Union (EU), among others, have ruled out the irregularities.
