The European Union (EU) asked this Saturday Nicolás Maduro to call elections in Venezuela "in the coming days" and opened the door to recognize the House leader Juan Guaidó as president of the country otherwise.

"In the absence of announcement (…) of new elections with the necessary guarantees in the coming days, the EU will take other measures, including on the issue of recognition leaders of the country in accordance with Article 233 of the Venezuelan Constitution "said the head of the community diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, in a statement approved by the 28 countries of the bloc.

The EU statement, agreed on Friday morning, comes after Spain, France, Germany and the UK gave Maduro an eight-day ultimatum to call elections, under to recognize Guidó.
