Mexico’s COVID-19 deaths to exceed 321,000 victims, SSa data shows

The coronavirus pandemic has devastated Mexico with the lives of hundreds of thousands of citizens. Officially, 201,409 victims were recorded, according to daily figures presented by the Ministry of Health (SSa). However, a recent report The government would reveal that the official figure could be 321,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Until the past February 14th, the Mexican authorities have linked 294,287 deaths with COVID-19, but, from the 15th of this month, Mexico has confirmed 26,772 deaths thanks to diagnostic tests. This would mean that the total number of deaths from the pandemic are said to be 321,059, 60% more than that announced by the authorities.

Almost since the start of the pandemic, the Mexican government has been embroiled in a controversy over the death toll it reveals, which is why the only way to get a clear picture of deaths is to review “additional deaths” and review death certificates.

The new figure would be at the level of Brazil, who is now the second country with the most deaths behind the United States. But Mexico’s population, 126 million people, is much smaller than that of these two countries.

But some experts say that COVID-19 could have contributed to many more deaths as many people were unable to receive treatment for other illnesses because hospitals were overwhelmed.

According to the latest official report, Mexico has recorded 567 new deaths in the last 24 hours, which means that a total of 201,429 people have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in February 2020.

On another side, 2,224,767 of people have tested positive for the disease since the start of the pandemic and 1,759,123 have successfully recovered from the disease. However, on the seventh day of epidemiological week number 10, the existence of 2,419,218 estimated cases.
