Nerves of Steel: The shocking moment a stock car driver thwarted a heist in South Africa

A camera that focuses on the cockpit of a freight vehicle. Two men, the driver and an armed escort, leave in silence and tranquility until calm interrupted by a series of shots. The incident happened on April 22 in the city of Pretoria, northern South Africa, and the images quickly went viral.

Local media reported that those responsible for the attempted theft they left empty-handed and so far no detainees have been reported for the fact, as reported by Associated press.

Security camera footage showed the driver of the armored vehicle and his co-pilot, both wearing bulletproof vests and weapons handy, driving quietly on a highway. At least two other armed guards are also seen in the rear.

After a minute of complete silence, the crew of the car values they were surprised by several blows to their right side, which impacted the bodywork and partially shattered the front windows.

The recording shows the bullet bumps on the driver’s side, who reacted quickly and effectively to the armed attack from the start, as he properly maneuvered the vehicle and even corrected his – noticeably more nervous – partner who tried to repel the assault with a squad-type pistol instead of the AK-47 rifle they had at hand.

At one point, the driver said to his colleague “they come after usWhile constantly looking around. Suddenly he appeared to make a sharp “U” turn and hit the gas completely. Later, just as the driver exclaimed “They are going to shoot us, they are going to shoot us!”, More shots could be heard in the recording.

Shortly after the escape attempts, the driver pulled over, took his colleague’s gun and went out to confront the thieves, but just then the recording ends. According to local information, the security vehicle was badly damaged, but its crew members are unharmed.
